Participation - Students can participate in music class by singing, listening, moving, playing and working together in order to develop an appreciation of diverse musical styles.
Singing - Students can use their singing voice properly, echo sing, match pitch and sing a variety of children's songs and folk songs.
Theory - Students can differentiate between music that is fast and slow, high and low, and loud and soft.
Rhythm - Students can perform a steady beat during songs, poems, and rhythmic chants.
First Grade

Singing - Students can use their singing voice and match pitch. Students can sing a varied repertoire of songs, including Patriotic, folk songs, play parties, call and response.
Theory - Students can describe, perform, and create music that moves fast and slow, high and low, loud and soft, and short and long.
Rhythm - Students can keep a steady beat on a variety of classroom instruments, and differentiate between beat and rhythm.
Second Grade
Participation - Students can participate in music class by singing, listening, moving, playing and working together in order to develop an appreciation of diverse musical styles.
Singing - Students can sing in tune and match pitch, and students can identify the verse and chorus of a song.
Theory - Students can create and improvise music in four beat pattern. Students will be able to identify instruments within an instrument family by sight and sound, identify and perform dynamic markings (piano and forte), and describe music they are hearing and performing.
Rhythm - Students can differentiate between rhythm and beat; students can read, write, and perform rhythms including paired eighth notes, quarter notes (ta, ti-ti) and dotted quarter note and three eighth notes in 6/8 (du, du-da-di). Students will be able to perform four beat ostinatos as a class.
